All agricultural products that are marketed in Ecuador must be registered with the Agency for Regulation and Control of Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Products of Ecuador – AGROCALIDAD, except for raw materials used for the production of finished agricultural products, agricultural imported for personal use, or those manufactured in the national territory for personal use, as well as special mixtures of fertilizers.
Products that enhance or maximize the performance of an agrochemical in field use are known as adjuvants, which must be registered prior to their commercialization in Ecuador. This type of product and its registration are regulated by Resolution 148, titled “MANUAL OF PROCEDURES FOR THE REGISTRATION AND CONTROL OF AGRICULTURAL ADJUVANTS.”
The following are considered adjuvants:
- Surfactants or surface-active agents.
- Adherents.
- Penetrants.
- Anti-drift agents.
- Emulsifiers or compatibility agents.
Each of these must meet specific technical requirements, such as a Certificate of Composition, Certificate of Analysis, Physical-Chemical Properties, among other technical and legal requirements. These documents must be submitted along with a functionality report of the product conducted in the field or laboratory, which must describe the product´s function and demonstrate its use in the agricultural sector.
